The Defending Champions are an underground indie band from Veroa (New Jersey). The members are: Matty Ryan (lead, vocals and trombone), Dean Nevolis (guitar, vocals, shooby and sax), Jenny Hoatson (lead and vocals), Eric “Swini” (bass) and Shawn Fichtner (drums).
Dean Nevolis is a graduate of WilliamPattersonUniversity. He teaches all levels of guitar at the Birdhouse at Madison (NJ). The Birdhouse at Madison offers a variety of classes and workshops for children and adults. Seem to us that Dean collborate to the album You Just Gotta Trust It from Miasmics, released in 2005 at the record label Homefront Records. Jenny Hoatson graduate from MontclairStateUniversity in 2009 (Public Relations and Communications). Before joining The Defending Champions, Shawn Fichtner had been the drummer of Tokyo Rose, an indie rock band from New Brunswick (NJ). The Defending Champions will perform at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City on August 22, 2009; Evolve Music Festival in Andover (NJ) on September 6, 2009; Sarah St. Bar & Grill in Stroudsburg (Pennsylvania) on September 18, 2009. On October 31, 2009, get ready for an Halloween Party at the Tierneys Tavern in Montclair (NJ) on October 31, 2009.
Among with Mathias Hatleskog Tjonn, The Measure, Lindsay Katt, Palmyra, Pale Young Gentlemen, Noble Three, Peter Broderick, Steso Songs, The Botticellis, Proud Simon, Brooke Waggoner and Béatrice Martin alias Cœur de Pirate, The Defending Champions had contributed to the soundtrack of the upcoming indie movie Sneakers and Soul.
