Benjamin Millepied is born on 1977 in Bordeaux, France. Benjamin began dance training as a child in France with his mother, a dance teacher. At the age of 5 years old, after seing Baryshnikov in the film "White Nights", Benjamin Millepied decided he wanted to become a ballet dancer. Benjamin Millepied began his ballet training at the young age of 8 years old.
Benjamin Millepied studied the ballet for 3 years with the ballet director at the Bordeaux Opera House, Vladimir Skouratoff. At the age of 13, Benjamin Millepied studied at the Lyon Conservatory's dance department. At the time, the Lyon Conservatory's dance department was Philippe Cohen. When he was 16, Benjamin Millepied moved to New York City to study with the City Ballet. Benjamin Millepied had named legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins as one of Benjamin Millepied mentors. Benjamin Millepied became a principal dancer when he was 24. In 2002, Benjamin Millepied organize a small touring company with City Ballet dancers and a choreographers' workshop at the Morriss Center Dance, a school in Bridgehampton, New York. Benjamin Millepied touring company had performed in London.
Benjamin Millepied joined the New York City Ballet in 2005 as a ballet dancer. He soon became a soloist then principal dancer and choreographer. Now, Benjamin Millepied appears on prestigious stages all over the world.
Benjamin Millepied had always been inspired by music. Over the years, Benjamin Millepied has developed a reputation for creating choegraphs beyond traditional ballet steps and setting them to unconventional music.
Benjamin Millepied is the choreographer of her newest movie featuring Natalie Portman, Black Swan (2010). Black Swan tells the story of two ballerinas, played by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Benjamin Millepied also play a in the movie as an actor-dancer.
In 2009, the paparazzi and people magazines had reported that Benjamin Millepied was dating Natalie Portman. Benjamin Millepied met Natalie Portman on the movie set of Black Swan, directed by Darren Aronofsky. In Black Swan, Natalie Portman played a ballerina. During the production, Benjamin Millepied was blown away by the performance of Natalie Portman. And he's not the only one. Natalie Portman had been named for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in Black Swan. In December 2010, Natalie Portman declared she and Benjamin Millepied are engaged and both are expecting their first child for 2011.
